Forget going to a crowded city where you are going to breathe in smog and feel overwhelmed — a nature escape is the best way to de-stress and has a fun-filled time away from the everyday stresses of life. Let’s check out some of the top things to do at Chimney Rock Park North Carolina and why this is one of the top parks in the entire country!

Hiking Trails

There is no shortage of hiking trails in this expansive natural area! We recommend parking at The Meadows building or the Animal Discovery Den and then setting off on one of the shorter trails, such as the Four Seasons Trail or the Great Woodland Adventure Trail.

If you are feeling a bit more adventurous and up for a challenge, park in the main parking lot by the Lodge and try the Outcropping Trails. Then, if you are still feeling full of energy due to the incredible views, we recommend taking the Exclamation Point Trail to the higher viewpoint and connecting to the ridge Skyline Trail.

Continue on to reach the picnic table and take photos at the Chimney Rock State Park, NC viewpoint, Peregrine’s Point, and Hickory Nut Falls. Your breath will be taken away by the cascading waterfalls and the incredible views of the town down below, and the never-ending lush greenery!

Animal Discovery Den

The Animal Discovery Den is a fun place to visit if you happen to visit the park during a cloudy or rainy spell. The Den is the ideal spot to bring curious kids or adults to find out more about the park’s wildlife, the animals’ natural homes, the usual habitats, and animals in the habitats which are protected and preserved.

Rock Climbing

Are you an adrenaline junkie? Well, look no further! The abundance of rock climbing trails and slabs in Chimney Rock State Park is great for able-bodied athletes who want to climb the beautiful mountains and see the viewpoints from the very top. We recommend using the Fox Mountain Guides and Climbing School to feel secure, safe, and comfortable during your climbing adventure. Fox Mountain Guides offers lessons, tips, and courses to people of all ages and skill levels, so you will feel comfortable during your entire day out on the rocks.
