Yadkin Valley Pumpkin Festival
First thing’s first: You can’t go to the Yadkin Valley during September and October and NOT see big and beautiful pumpkins! The Yadkin Valley Pumpkin Festival is held every single year in this historic and quaint town in the Historic Downtown section of Elkin Main Street in Elkin, NC, providing the perfect backdrop for this exciting and fun-loving event.
This event starts with the Great Pumpkin Weigh Off at the beginning of the event on Saturday morning, bright and early at 9 am. There is no reason to sleep in when you have an event like this to look forward to! The pumpkins will all go on the scales at 9 am to see which one is the biggest and best, bringing home the elusive $1,000 first prize that rewards the ‘best’ farmer for a pumpkin that is typically over 1,000 pounds!
We recommend getting to the exciting pumpkin festival at 9 am to get a good spot for parking, see the biggest pumpkins, and wander around the other flora and fauna, taking pictures of the huge pumpkins, fruits, vegetables, and gourds. After the competition is over, you can have fun with your family and friends walking around the local vendors to get a snack, purchase a souvenir to bring back to your Yadkin Valley lodging, and play games with your younger children.
Plus, before and after the pumpkin festival, you can get a cup of coffee at one of the many cafes, go shopping in the main street, or grab a drink at one of the numerous bars after. We recommend going to Dirty Joe’s coffee shop on E Market Street to get a yummy cappuccino or flat white to start your day before the pumpkin festival. If you are in the mood to take a lunch break, we love Southern on Main for huge comfort food dishes or the Cowboy Restaurant on Bridge Street.
Downtown Trick-or-Treating
One of the most exciting reasons to go to the Yadkin Valley this upcoming holiday season is to go trick or treating in the historic and beautiful section of the Yadkin Valley, encompassing cute towns like Elkin, Yadkinville, Jonesville, East Bend, Boonville, and many others!
Head to Yadkinville’s downtown trick or treat event held every single year on Halloween from 3 pm to 5 pm – the perfect time for younger kids to go out and about before it gets dark out and spooky! Tell your kids to keep an eye out for monsters, ghouls, goblins, and ghosts during their time here.
Trick-or-Treating in Lenoir, NC
Even though Lenoir is slightly farther away from the smaller towns of Yadkinville, we love going to the Downtown Trick or Treating in Downtown Lenoir, NC, to take part in the ‘Mad Hatter’s Pumpkin Patch Parade’ with your best and most extravagant costume! This event is spooky and fun for the entire family. Dress to the nines and head here for an evening full of scars and fun.
Annual Fall Festival at the Farm
Head to Lenoir, NC, to take part in the 4th annual Fall Festival at the Farm on Saturday, September 23rd from 11 am to 4 pm to enjoy hay mazes, corn mazes, hydrides, petting zoos, vendors with local food, souvenir shops, pumpkins, and much more.
Head Out for a Bit of Hiking!
After all of the Halloween hubbub, or before you head out of your Yadkin Valley rentals to have a few drinks for the night, you might feel better about yourself if you get in some exercise. Lucky for you, the Yadkin Valley in the beautiful state of North Carolina is no stranger to pristine mountain trails, paths, and biking trails that bring you at high speeds down the lush green forests and rolling hillsides. We love going to Pilot Mountain State Park, Horne Creek Trail, Eno River State Park, and Yadkin Memorial Park for a fun-filled afternoon in October.
If you are on the search for the best trails in the entire valley, we recommend the following. Firstly, you can’t go wrong with an easy and fun hike for the entire family. We recommend going to Carter Falls for a 0.5-mile one-way trail that offers a gentle incline and smooth terrain through the old forest to get to a gently cascading waterfall. If you want a slightly longer walk, the Granite City Greenway is ideal for bikers and hikers alike!
