Elk Knob State Park
Another great spot to get in 10,000 steps is the Elk Knob State Park in North Carolina. This 4,400-acre wilderness area has trails that are perfect for people of all ages and skill levels. Plus, you can even try to summit the famous Elk Knob Peak while you are here! This peak is the third tallest in the entire county, just behind Grandfather and Snake Mountain.
From the top of Elk Knob Peak in Watauga County, you will be able to see extensive views to the Iron Mountains, Tennessee, and Pilot Mountain! And the best part about this mountain is that it is just 20 miles away from Boone, NC, making it an easy hike to get to from your local accommodation in Dobson.
